Objective:
Students on Ice (SOI) aimed to redesign and develop a new website, giving their existing website a fresh and updated look. The objective was to improve the overall user experience and enhance the online presence of SOI.

SOI utilized a combination of technologies for their project:
- WordPress: The content management system used as the foundation for the website.
- Laravel Blade templates: Utilized for efficient templating and rendering of dynamic content.
- Vue.js: A progressive JavaScript framework used for interactive components and enhanced user experience.
- PHP: The server-side scripting language for server-side processing and backend development.
- Custom WordPress plugin development: Customized plugins were developed to meet specific requirements and add missing features.
- Advanced Custom Fields: A WordPress plugin that allows for flexible and powerful custom fields creation, used to enhance content management and data handling capabilities.
Challenges:
During the development and implementation process, I faced challenges related to incorporating a job board on their website. To overcome this, they leveraged an existing job board plugin and I modified it with custom code to add any missing features or functionality required by SOI.
Design and development approach:
The website design was created by a designer, with a focus on responsiveness to ensure optimal viewing across various devices and screen sizes. The development approach incorporated WordPress as the content management system, Laravel Blade templates for efficient templating, and Vue.js for interactive and dynamic components.
Key features and functionalities:
The new SOI website incorporated the following key features and functionalities:
- Custom mega menu: Implemented a custom mega menu to enhance navigation and improve user experience for accessing various sections of the website.
- Animation features: Integrated small animation effects throughout the website to add a touch of interactivity and visual appeal.
- Custom WordPress development: Developed custom features and functionality, such as the job board, through custom WordPress plugin development, tailoring it to meet the specific requirements of SOI.
- Modular and customizable blocks for custom layouts: Utilized the flexibility of Advanced Custom Fields to create modular and customizable blocks, empowering content editors to create unique and dynamic layouts tailored to their needs.
By leveraging the modular and customizable blocks alongside other key features, the new SOI website achieved a highly flexible and engaging user experience. Content editors were empowered to easily create custom layouts, ensuring the website could adapt and evolve according to the needs of Students on Ice.
